Bosom Buddies, a breast cancer support and education program of the Women’s Center of Jacksonville, is actively seeking breast cancer survivors who have a desire to help women who are newly diagnosed with breast cancer.
Through a grant from the Florida Breast Cancer Research Foundation, Bosom Buddies will train survivors as advocates to accompany women with need of support who are looking for guidance and encouragement.
Advocates will support breast cancer patients with the following:
Help schedule medical appointments
Attend appointments with the patient
Listen and take notes at appointments
Review information with the patient
Emotionally support and encourage the patient
Advocates must be one year post diagnosis, be available during weekday hours to accompany patients, have reliable transportation and be able to attend a two-hour training to be held on Thursday, March 3, 2011, from 10 a.m. to noon. Training will be held at the Women’s Center of Jacksonville, 5644 Colcord Avenue, Jacksonville, Florida 32211.
Applicants may make an appointment to fill out an application, followed by a brief interview, at the Women’s Center of Jacksonville. For more information, please call the Bosom Buddies office, 722-3000 Ext. 224.
